Because it should be noted

Yesterday Ellie was up with sun because she was still on Midwest time. I got her up and we decided to hit the park for an early (and cooler!) morning "swing slide". I got her dressed and then we went in my room to see Brad, who was getting ready for an early work meeting.

He picked her up and then I hear "um, what is that?"
I look over and E has what appears to be dirt under three fingernails. Lots of thick dirt...
Yes, it was what you think.

And for anyone still confused, Ellie had apparently stuck her hand in her diaper while waiting for someone to get her up, just far enough to get poop under her nails. She confirmed this as well when we asked if she did that. "Yes, mama!"

Fortunately she comprehends a lot and I am hoping that she understood the strong suggestion that she NOT stick her hands in her diapers ever again.

Mommy take my peecture!

Today, E was quite pleased with herself when she took her treat bag, put it on her head, and declared "It's a HAT, mommy! A HAT!". Of course that statement was immediately followed by "Take my peecture, mommy!" So naturally I obliged. Is this my kid, or what?

Pet store fun

Some days when we are done with what we set out to do, but aren't quite ready to go home, we stop by PetSmart and take a look at the wildlife. It's pretty darn adorable. Ellie is pretty in love with cats, and today she even tried to share her doll with one. As much as E would love one, Penny would have a FIT if we brought one home, so we have a good reason where there can be no cats in this house.

When days don't go as planned...

Little irritates me more than when I have a day planned and things to completely awry. Like yesterday, for example, when we were supposed to go to swim lessons, followed by the gym, then home for lunch and down for a nap. Our regular, perfect Wednesday. But as I went to put the swim bag in the car at 8:35 am, the power went out, which meant the garage door wouldn't open and I couldn't get the automatic lever to work, which essentially left us locked in our own house. After about 20 minutes of trying to figure something out, I realized it was useless and we moved on to plan B: a swim in our own pool, followed by some naked golf. Because, why not? When life hands you lemons, show your buns! (And never forget proper footwear!)

Fur baby

Penny doesn't get much blog love these days, but I had to share this sweet pic. I was putting away laundry upstairs the other day while Ellie was napping, and when I came around the corner to go downstairs, I peeked through the crack in the open door to find Penny sound asleep on a pile of my clothes on the guest bed. She knows she's not supposed to get up on the bed, and she also knows not to nest in my clothes, but she looked so peaceful and sweet, I couldn't bear to wake her up and tell her to get down. A little dog hair on their clothes never hurt anybody, right? ;)

FAMILYYYYYY!

Ellie's new (and cute) thing to do is to yell "FAMILYYYYY!" when Brad and I hug, which is basically her way of asking to get in on the action. Of course, we always oblige. (Sometimes we even get Penny involved!) Love my little family.
