Mimi had a weekend trip planned for the weekend of October 2 which just so happened to fall on the weekend Ellie came down with her first real sickness. It started as a little congestion/cold like last time, but this time it quickly escalated and E ran a fever of over 100 for three days straight (with temps as high as 104.5). I'm sure it wasn't the weekend trip she had in mind, but we were so very grateful to have her here to reassure us, give us advice, and help us calm a fussy Ellie. Plus we were still able to make it to surprise date night on Saturday...dinner and Wicked! We are so lucky to have her.
We went back to the pediatrician on Tuesday (fever day 5), and since there were still no additional symptoms, we tested E's urine for a UTI and attempted to get bloodwork to test for other bacteria (attempted because after lots of arm and wrist squeezing and a stick in the back of her hand, they couldn't get any blood to come out).
Lo and behold, Ellie had a UTI. We felt terrible, but were happy it was something that we could treat with medicine. 14 hours after she started the medicine, the fever was gone and never came back. Hallelujah! I think those were the longest 5 days since she's been born - the newborn days included. There is absolutely nothing worse than seeing your baby sick.
