Ellie's first trip to the Phoenix zoo (3/21/16)

We have been wanting to visit the zoo for awhile, and so on March 21, we went with our friends Colleen and Olivia Beverage. They are zoo members, so got us in for free with some passes! Ellie loved it. I think she's at an age where she can pretty much see and sense what's going on and it'll continue to get more fun as she becomes a more steady walker. We decided to join, too, and a great member perk is being able to get in an hour before the regular open time. This will be AWESOME as it starts to heat up!
Here are a few shots from our first zoo encounter:

Olivia and Ellie - VERY interested in the monkeys

Face off

Walkeen? walkeen?

All she wants to do is walk, walk, walk. (Photo taken 3/13 - walking and stealing hearts all over Kierland).

Self feeding

We're working on utensils, which means gigantic messes. We'd been trying spoons for awhile, and I decided to take a little break, but this morning, we tried again after a few weeks off. She was SO much better! Still a huge mess, but all things considered, she did incredibly well! Fine motor skills in action, folks! (Video below)

SXM photos - the album!

There are a billion, but they're all in the album link below!
Photos here!

This girl, she is a learnin'

This girl talks up a STORM! When we're out and about people always ask how old she is because they're amazed someone so tiny is saying so much!
A current list of words (that are initiated by her) is below:
mama/mommy/mom
dada/daddy/dad
sis/moosh/penny
hi!
bye/bye-bye
wa-was (water)
moon
oshee (ocean)
poo! (pool) not to be confused with
poo-poo or just plain ole'
POOP
pee-pee
hair
up/down
tummy
seep (sleep)
ni-nigh (night night)
wa-king (walking)
eat
ank-oo (thank you)
mo! (more)
cheers
chee-chee (cheese)
ca-ker (cracker)
pouch
wee-wee (kiwi)
boo-bahs (blueberries)
puh (pear)
nanny (banana)
baba (strawberry)
highchair
fower (flower)
dog
ah-pane (airplane)
eh-copter (helicopter)
ca (car)
truck
milk
Sophie (her giraffe)
wash
boy
uh-oh
oopsie
hug
rocking
book

There are more, but that's a pretty good idea.

In addition she knows basically all of her body parts including hands, toes, feet, and arms, and knows a ton of animal noises that she will recite when she sees said animal (woof! mao! mooooo! neigh! baaaa! oink!). We taught her to cheers (complete with taking a drink after she's clinked glasses), and her favorite book is Madeline (which she refers to as Madison for some reason). Watching her little brain work is absolutely incredible and I feel so blessed to get to be such a big part of her amazing journey.

15 months!

Mama is WAAAAY behind on her posting, but I did take the photo on time! We had our 15 month check up and Ellie doing amazingly well. 21.4 pounds (50%) and 30.5 inches tall (48%). She got two more shots and was NOT pleased. The good news is we won't have any more shots for awhile. YAY!
The doc was very pleased with her verbal and fine motor progression, and we're supposed to keep at it on the walking. Since E walks holding on and is cruising while holding on to furniture, she's doing just fine, and our doc thinks she'll be walking within a month. We'll see! All I know is this mama is so ready for it!
Ellie continues to be a total people person, but is getting a bit more shy if is seems like mama may not be sticking around. We're dealing with some pretty good separation anxiety when mama does leave, and even poor daddy is feeling the brunt of it. Fingers crossed it passes soon.

mao mao!

After breakfast one morning, I noticed a neighborhood cat had snuck into our backyard and had made himself at home in our long, desperately needing to be mowed grass. I took Ellie outside quietly to try to get her a glimpse before Penny saw and ran the cat out of the yard. Once the cat was gone, this is what followed for about 5 full minutes:

Coo Coo Baby

Still saying "coo coo" to us three weeks post trip.

Naming our fruits...and a 2 minute glimpse of crazy Ellie (3/20/16)

Tubby Reading - 3/16/16

When Ellie opens the book to the Mama/Baby page, she almost always immediately starts saying "rocking" and starts rocking back and forth. It totally melts my heart, and I can never seem to have my phone ready to catch it. Here are two terrible attempts at me trying to get her to rock.

THREE STEPS!

I have no evidence yet (other than one Aunt Karen Carr who also witnessed it), but Eleanor Claire took her first three steps on Easter Sunday. How special! She's only taken one other solo step since, but now walks perfectly well (and for a long time) barely holding on to one finger with one of her hands. We are SO CLOSE to a full fledged walker, I can just feel it!

SXM videos

Took a few videos while we were in SXM  - here they are for your viewing pleasure :) First two are poolside Bug, next one is dancing Bug at Airplane Beach, and the last one is another dancing Bug.

SXM - Papa Turns 60!

Dad turned the big 6-0 in December, and to celebrate we'd planned a trip to St. Maarten for March. Brad, Ellie and I (plus Evan, Josh, Papa, Gigi, Meek and Sec) all flew south to enjoy the warm, beachy paradise.
SXM is not exactly close to PHX, so to make the travel easier on E, we flew into Miami a day before the trip began, stayed overnight there, and then met everyone in SXM the next day. (We did the same thing coming home.)
The trip was wonderful - we shared a "villa" with Ev and Josh, so we each had a room and bathroom and had a shared living room and kitchen area. Our days were spent poolside or exploring different areas of SXM and eating at some quaint island restaurants. Ellie did INCREDIBLY well - I could not believe how quickly she adapted to the 3 hour time change (4 hours coming back thanks to Daylight Savings) - it helps the adjusting when she won't sleep on airplanes b/c by the time we get where we're going she's exhausted and takes one quick nap before being ready for bed around the right time.

Some trip highlights:

One of the days we took a full day boat trip out on the ocean to a private island. Trip got off to a rocky start when I threw up over the side of the boat...it was REALLY windy. Then because it was so windy they couldn't take the dinghy to shore, so once we got to the private island, we all had to swim in from the anchored boat to the beach. Thank heavens I'd brought an Ellie-sized lifejacket! With the help of two of the boat crew (young women who were both rescue divers/lifeguards/etc), I got Ellie from the boat to the shore. Necessity, the mother of invention, strikes again. She was a little freaked out, but bringing her back to the boat was much easier. I will never forget the amazing sight it was to look up and see the entire family on shore waving and screaming for us as we made our way in. Everyone loves them some bug. Once on shore, she played and played and played in the sand for at least an hour - happy as a little beach bum.
The boat trip also included a mud bath which you then cleaned off by jumping in the ocean. It was HILARIOUSLY entertaining. After basically the full day of being on Ellie duty, B took one for the team and hung with her so I could partake.
Lesson learned that we should probably put a pause on excursions like this until E and any future children are out of the toddler phase (or at least really steady walkers), but it was a really good time.

Ellie loves the water, and now knows the difference between the pool and the ocean (or "oshee" as she calls it). She is still talking about the oshee and wanting to go there.

She is also obsessed with Meeky, Secey, and Josh. Maybe because they're the ones on the trip who were "newer" to her - I don't know - but she is STILL talking them all three weeks later.

We had breakfast at a great spot aptly called Z'Best the last morning we were there, and it was TASTY. Savoy and sweet crepes, homemade pastries, all around heaven. The service was slow, but the French lady who waited on us was darling and loved Ellie. She kept saying "coo coo, baby" to her, and we finally asked her what it meant. It's apparently the French way of saying hello when you want to say it very sweetly. We are still saying this to E and she loves it. She says it to us, too.

There are so many amazing memories, and we feel so fortunate that we got to spend so much uninterrupted time with family in such a perfect setting. I'm working on getting a trip album together, so hopefully the photos should be up soon. In the meantime, here are a few teasers.

Momo was hungry!

This morning after Ellie finished nursing, she sat up, grabbed Momo (her stuffed monkey that she'd brought in with her from her bedroom), shoved him up to my boob and said "yum yum yum". She proceeded to do this a few more times before deciding Momo had had enough.

I was sort of surprised that my immediate reaction was full on joy and pride. I am not one of those crazy breastfeeding people who preach it and shove it in your face and go to la leche league meetings and make you feel bad for not doing it, but I do feel that it's incredibly important and has been one of the greatest gifts I have given Ellie to date.
And it just makes me feel so good to know that she's growing up aware enough of it to want her "baby" to have some too. Because it's normal and should be normal, and I hope she always feels that way.
And if someday she wants to be the president of her local la leche league chapter, well, then as long as she's not putting anyone else down, then more power to her :)

Airplanes!

Obviously a big post will be coming about our week of fun in St. Maarten, but I had to get this out before I forget!
Ellie is OBSESSED with airplanes. Like, obsessed. I'm convinced she has super sonic hearing because she'll start saying "ah-pane" a full 15 seconds before I even hear one faintly in the distance.
She was into them before our trip, but her love has exploded in the past week. The whole flight (both flights) home she kept pressing her cheek to the window so she could look at the wing. It was pretty cute that she thought an airplane was following us the whole time :)
We went to airplane beach in SXM where the planes literally land RIGHT over your head and she was in heaven. She'd start tracking the planes way off in the distance and was honed in until the hit the runway.
Taxiing to our gate after landing on the way home was hilarious - every 3 seconds she would frantically point and turn to us: "ah-pane!"
Just a random little thing that makes E, E. Love watching her grow and discover.

Fun with new friends

We got together with some new friends today - Lauren Lerner and her son Zachary. We enjoyed a warm early afternoon at the Scottsdale Quarter splash pad, the kids shared snacks, and the stay-at-home moms got some lovely adult interaction.
Not so great was E's first experience with head-meets-concrete. I was a mess and shaking like a leaf - thankfully Lauren was very calm and got some ice for the back of E's noggin. She's just fine, but I am bracing for all the scares like that in our future. Sheesh.

Eleanor's perfect mess

This girl LOVES her some books. A most perfect mess, indeed.

Gala = Mimi time!

And with Gala weekend here, it was Mimi to the rescue! Brad and I got our first overnight away from Ellie and Mimi got some great QT with the Bug. We ended our weekend at the park - I think everyone had a great time :)

GALA!

Well Gala 2016 has come and gone. It has been a crazy year to say the least, and really it feels like a crazy two years since I co-chaired this bad boy two years in a row. I'm not sure if I'm going to find I am bored now that I truly have nothing to focus on but E, but for now, I'm going to enjoy every second of being nothing but a mommy.
We raised over $450K for Child Crisis Arizona, and everything went perfectly. A few pics from the beautiful night are below!

This is what gala chairs do at 12:30 am after the gala - eat a leftover dinner in their PJs in bed! :)

Morning park time

I fear E's morning nap is slowly becoming a thing of the past. Sometimes she won't sleep at all, and when she does, she goes down later and only sleeps 30-45 minutes. This later morning nap has created a new hole in our schedule - what to do post breakfast but before nap? When our toys and books get boring, we've started heading to the park (we usually go after a long walk with Penny in the evenings). This morning was particularly lovely and E had a great time going down the slide "by herself". Love watching her grow.
