I know I say this every month but OH MY GOODNESS! The time is literally flying by. I swear I'm going to blink and she'll be starting kindergarten. Heaven help me.
What a gift this child is. I've had multiple people tell me that 8 months their absolute favorite age with a baby, and if the last 7 months have been any indication, I can't WAIT to see what this month has in store for us. She's so stinking happy, awesomely independent at times and loving her hugs and snuggles other times. She's been sleeping through the night (seriously, she sleeps through the night) for usually an 11 hour stretch (7 to 6) since mid-May. I'm sure this will promptly end once teething truly starts, but for now, I'm well rested and not complaining!
She radiates joy wherever she goes, and the smiles she can get out of people when we're out and about are incredible. Just the other day an older lady stopped me while E and I were grocery shopping and said, "Well those are two HAPPY girls!". (E was in her Ergo carrier facing out so I couldn't see her face.) I replied, "Well I certainly am and I hope she is, too!". The lady said, "Oh, there's a BIG smile on that sweet little face". Moments like that just fill my cup and warm my soul. Eleanor Claire, you are one special little person.
Some stats and what's making her special these days is below:
As of 8/9/15...
Weight: unofficial weigh in at 16.2 pounds
Height: guessing 26 or 26.5"
Loves: water - baths, pool, splash pads, you name it; being held; peek a boo; music and dancing (she rocks back and forth when a song she likes comes on!); Penny, Miss Joanne at daycare; books, especially The Very Hungry Caterpillar; tickle pits as we call it; spices in her food
Hates: uh, we talked about it and came up with nothing. She usually doesn't even cry when she's tired!
Size: 3-6 month clothes with a select few 6-9 month outfits starting to fit, and size 2 diapers.
-Sitting like a champ- will stay seated on the floor playing with toys for an hour at a time! - and starting to throw herself forward ending up on her tummy like she's figuring out the beginnings of crawling. She also has figured out how to scoot herself a little bit while still on her butt.
-Entertains herself in her crib for a good stretch of time upon waking up. She talks and plays and giggles and blows raspberries, totally content.
-Happily sits in restaurant high chairs with no complaining!
-Sat in a shopping cart for the first time - did ok, but I think it'll be easier when she's just a tad bigger.
-Points (or does a #1 as well call it) but doesn't seem to be actually pointing at anything specific quite yet.
-Has tried just about every fruit that she's allowed at this point, loving all of them. Not a huge fan of most veggies, although does seem to be ok with green beans and peas, and loves sweet potatoes and avocado. We've also started actual solid food by way of banana pieces, avocado pieces, and cottage cheese (which she LOVED). She can totally use her pincer grasp, but once she gets the piece of food in her hand she just stares at it - she has yet to figure out that she can then put it in her own mouth :)
-Will play "catch" with her toys with you - if you throw a small toy in her lap, she'll pick it up and fling it back in your general direction. This keeps her entertained and is pretty cool to watch!
-Is really starting to figure out waving and I think is starting to pick up on the sign for "more".
-We've officially weaned the midday nap (yay!), and she's down to two solid naps, usually from 9 - 10/10:30, and from 2 - 3:30/4.
Dad's favorite things about Ellie:
1. Her smiles and laughs, especially her grunt laugh.
2. How she's a calming presence in my day - helps me keep perspective of what's important
Mom's favorite things about Ellie:
1. How adventurous of an eater she is with flavors
2. Her head tilt as if to say "I'm so cute and fun! Look at me!"
3. How sweet she is - you can see that she is a genuinely sweet girl in the way she looks at the people (and dogs) she loves.
4. Kisses, and when she's sitting on your lap facing you and just collapses on your chest like she's giving you a hug
5. When she whispers - if you whisper back to her mimicking her, for she'll go back and forth for awhile and it feels like a real conversation
